The CRISPR/Cas is an immune system which enables bacteria to remember and cut DNA sequences of their pathogens which previously invaded them. The system consists of a guide RNA and a Cas protein, the former binds to target DNA, while the second cuts the DNA bound with the guide RNA. Thus, by designing the sequence of guide RNA to be complementary to a desired DNA sequence, CRISPR/Cas system can be directed to a specific genomic site and cleave target DNA enabling high-efficiency genome editing.
